The Convention on Abduction is currently in force in 78 countries and has contributed to the resolution of thousands of cases of abduction or wrongful retention of children. In each country, central authorities provide assistance in locating the child and achieving, where possible, his or her voluntary return or an amicable solution to custody issues. In Brazil, this authority is the Special Secretariat for Human Rights (SEDH) of the Presidency of the Republic.
