During the full bench session this Wednesday (22), Justice André Mendonça, the newest member of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), remembered the 40 years of judicature of Justice Luiz Fux, president of the Court, who started his career on June 21, 1982, at the Court of Appeals of Rio de Janeiro (TJ-RJ).

Mendonça highlighted that the legacy of the justice's father, Mendel Wolf Fux, was fundamental for Fux to abandon a career in the private sector and dedicate himself to the public sector, first as a prosecutor and then as a judge. He pointed out that one of the milestones of his legal and academic career was the presidency of the jurists' commission that drafted the bill that originated the new Code of Civil Procedure (CPC), also known as "Fux's Code".

"Forty years dedicated to the Judiciary, 40 years dedicated to Justice, and 40 years dedicated to the country. Your Honor distinguishes and is a symbol of the national judiciary. An example for the new judges who see in your history a path to follow to reach the highest positions in the national judiciary," said Mendonça.

The president of the Court thanked the tribute and said that everything good he tried to do in life was in honor of his father, who, coming from Nazi persecution, could not fulfill his dreams. The Justice dedicated his 40 years as a judge to his father and remembered the promise he made to him to serve the country as long as he was healthy. For Fux, the greatest prize was, as a career judge, to win a seat on the Supreme Court, to hold the Presidency, and to be able to live with colleagues of moral, cultural, and human stature.

"I have learned with the Judicature that a judge must have nobility of character, Olympian independence, encyclopedic knowledge, tolerate the truth of others, and carry in his heart a sense of justice and charity," concluded Fux.
